Island makers
Cutting a YouTube trailer for the same map? Fortnite thumbnail maker.
Map thumbnail, not video thumbnail
The island card that decides whether anyone joins
A Fortnite map thumbnail is the picture on your island in Discover. Players scroll a wall of islands and pick by the picture, so it has to show the mode, the setting and the hook at a glance. This is a different job from a YouTube thumbnail about Fortnite. If you are cutting a trailer or a gameplay video for the same map, the Fortnite thumbnail maker covers the video side.
- +Made for the island card in Discover
- +One clear subject that survives a small tile
- +Looks like your map, so players get what the picture promises
- +Works for Creative islands and UEFN projects
How it works
Start from a screenshot of your map
Capture a screenshot from your island, drop it into the Fortnite studio, and describe what the card should say: the game mode, the hero moment, the mood. The studio builds a 16:9 frame from your screenshot, and you keep changing it by typing until it reads right. We do not promise plays or clicks. You get the picture and compare it against the islands around yours.
- +Use your own in-game screenshot as the base
- +Describe the change in plain words
- +Download a 16:9 picture
- +Keep the file under 5 MB for upload
The size
1920x1080, under 5 MB
Island thumbnails are 16:9 at 1920x1080, and the file has to stay under 5 MB. Keep the subject away from the edges because the card gets cropped and scaled, and keep small text out of the picture, since it turns to mush on a phone. Epic publishes its own thumbnail rules for Discover and updates them, so read the current version in the Epic Creator documentation before you submit.

One account
The same studio your YouTube channel uses
The Fortnite studio makes island thumbnails and YouTube thumbnails, plus Shorts covers, channel art and square profile pictures. One account and one credit balance work across every game studio, so your signup credits go to whichever job you start with.
