Tested June 2026. Where a tool is honest, we say so. That is the whole point.
The word "Free" sits in nearly every SEO page title. Our fresh account received 0 generation credits, and the first Generate click opened the paywall below. In fairness: one free analyze of an existing thumbnail did run. The fix it suggests is what costs money. Paid credits also reset every billing cycle, so there is no carryover.
Pikzels actually generates on the free tier, which is more than most, and signup took no card. The catch: the result comes back blurred behind "Start your free trial to unlock", and that trial is attached to the paid tiers. You can make a thumbnail; seeing it is the upsell. The capture below is that exact screen.
Credit where it is due. As tested June 2026, Thumbmagic gives 3 genuinely free thumbnails, watermarked, no card. The only knock is pricing is published nowhere on the site and only shows up in-app after signup ($17/mo billed yearly at tier 1, up to $59/mo yearly for unlimited).
Different lane, also honest. As tested June 2026, 1of10 ships a genuinely free research tier (outlier feed, 3 tracked channels, no card) and its title generator produced real output free during onboarding. Their FAQ says free thumbnails carry a small watermark; our thumbnail generation test did not complete because it requires attaching a channel first. The full AI suite is Pro at $69/mo billed yearly (about $89 month to month). Honest about what is free and what is not.
Fair is fair: here is our signup screen under the same scrutiny. One Google button. There is no card field on this screen or any screen after it, because the 25 credits are not a trial that converts into a charge. If you ever find a card ask before you choose a plan, screenshot it and we will fix it publicly.
